Canon 450D

The Canon 450D is my first and only DSLR camera. Despite this, I feel I know how to use it and do use it well enough to complain when I want more šŸ˜› . My only real complaint is the poor handheld low light performance.

In short, I love the camera due to it’s easy controls, small size and all the extra bits I have for it (see equipment).

The 450D has been upgraded 3 times from Canon (500D, 550D and most recently the 600D) the main upgrades are the addition of video recording and the improvement of sensor’s sensitivity up to ISO6400 (on the 600D). When compared to the mere ISO1600 of the 450D, this is a vast improvement. The 450D is only capable of ISO1600 when set manually, in the same way the 600D is actually capable of ISO12800! There is more to it than just the numbers such as noise levels at a given ISO level but these improve with technology updates. If I were to buy now I’d definitely get one of the 500’s for the additional low light help, the 600D is usually priced higher than the 450D ever was. I found a nice comparison between the 600D and 450D over onĀ snapsort.com.

[TASKER] Headphone safe volume check

I downloaded an app I saw yesterday, it was designed to automatically change your volume to a predefined level when you plugged in your headphones then back to a different predefined level when you took them out. I thought that’s a great idea and proceeded to download and install straight away…

It was only this morning I realised how pointless that was, I could create a profile for tasker which would actually do the job better. Stupid thing is that it’s probably one of the most obvious/easiest profiles to even create!

Context: State > Hardware> Headset Plugged > No Mic

Task: Audio > Media Volume > 2

If you plug your headphones in during configuration you can hear how loud 2 is and adjust accordingly. Media volume is a setting and so is automatically reset when the context state ends. In addition, I also have

App > Load App > Music

to open my music app when I plug in headphones.

Why is this any better?

It’s better than the app I downloaded because it resets the media volume to whatever it was before hand. Imagine you want to be quiet on a train (volume set low) and later plug in headphones to listen to music. If you then unplug your headphones you wouldn’t want your phone to suddenly be normalĀ loudness, you would want it to still be quiet. [Subtle advantage, I’ll accept that]

If you don’t have tasker, the concept is good so you will probably want it anyway… the app was called Hearing Saver.Ā
